Ill Manors Broadcast Platform: Trailer Analysis

What are the typical codes and conventions of film trailers - what information is usually provided?
  • Police vs Society
  • Gang vs Hood
  • Man vs Woman
  • Dominant vs Weak
  • Drugs vs Sex
  • Life vs Death
How are trailers distributed
Commonly trailers are distributed through social media such YouTube, Facebook & Twitter as it is the best way to reach a large demographic group. It is a great way as young people use social media and it is easy to reach to them through this form. Alternatively, theatrical and teaser trailers are also distributed to Television advertisers to show glimpses of the film to an audience that is much older and this aims for main-streamers and middle-class people. Further to this, trailers are distributed to cinema advertisers where the most common will be able to see the film trailers and this is the audience that will think deeply about the film. They are also the greatest group in terms of sales (Common movie watchers).

How does the Ill Manors trailer use trailer conventions?
The trailer uses common trailer conventions such as:
  • Short length
  • Social media links, website.
  • Quotes from verified sources such as Timeout London, Men's health, FHM & Q magazine.
  • Fast paced editing - iconography - Barthes.
  • Diegetic dialogue, parallel music, background music from Plan B.
  • Slow motion.
  • Revolver Entertainment (Institutional) information).
  • + Film London Microwave, BBC Films & UK Film council.
Does it have a unique selling point?
I believe that this film has a USP towards the younger generation. Especially those that live in the working class environment and families. Alternatively this film could reach a wider demographic than predicted as the Director of the film is a British rap artist who is known all over the world therefore by using him to promote the film it could reach much larger audiences. The film's UPS is primarily the use of character perspective and being in the moment with different people. By telling the story of young and old individuals, audiences can feel more connected as it relates to real life situations in contrast to Blockbuster Hollywood films where we see people of high status a lot of the time.Overall it is the way the story is told through narrative and also visually as we don't see any visual effects.
